How the sky danced with cirrus clouds as the sun rose. The story was I was about 15 and my pals were ‘camping’ down the beach. I joined, faked a call to mum that I was staying at a pal’s - she didn’t believe me, I stayed out anyway - and she was absolutely raging. We danced on the beach wall as the first light gleaned over onto Arran - Mam was not impressed. Anxieties + independence all under the same bit of wonderful sky.

Amanda Holden off of Britain’s got the Popstar or whatever - screamed ‘this is everything’ and my mate never let it go, it amused her no end. And me by extension. For Amanda is was someone doing a some kind backflip cartwheel, for me it’s the sunset from Ipanema, or from Ayr Beach, or from the Big Slope in KG Park, or from Koh Chang, or from Primrose Hill in ¿LONDON?! That’s everything. Amanda opened up to Alan about the loss of her son who was born sleeping, on their show about fixing a house in Greece and looking after a sad mule, Alan didn’t know what to say, we don’t know what to say do we a lot of us, when our friend describes the worst thing imaginable - what can we do but sit there with them and care deeply. Tears were absolutely shed for Amanda and that damn mule too, poor bastart.

I never really told anyone this but when I was 14 I was on the bus home from school and it was pure hoachin full of all sorts of cunts (folk), I didn’t really need to get two buses, but I guess something about getting on overcrowded public transport evokes a sense of big city life which I’d latterly recognised as vital to my happiness - wee 14 year old Lewster was perhaps getting his fix of metropolitan living by getting the A1 bus to Old Belmont in a medium sized seaside town on a Tuesday aifternin. Aren’t we funny? Anyway You know what’s not funny. This next bit. Owing to the overcrowding many people had to stand, me being one of them, towards the front. Two older ladies stood up to get off one in her late 60s, grey permed hair, and the other was older, presumably her mother, also with grey permed hair but a slight wee thing compared to her daughter. The bus was still moving, or started moving suddenly go get into the bus stop across fae Morrisons. The second, older lady jolted and her foot landed on my size 12 black wallaby shoes (so cool at the time) - this caused her to stumble and fall hitting her hip off a railing. It was awful. She couldn’t get up and was in a lot of pain. We all had to wait on the bus until an ambulance came for her. The bus shouldn’t have been moving if who older ladies were trying to get off, and my foot was as far out the way as I could have possibly placed it - but another woman with darker hair also permed and short - y’know that older lady style they have in Scotland, took the opportunity to say ‘Ye sit doon afore ye put anyane else in the hospital’ in a typical radgey gran type of way. Another woman with short, highlighted pixie cut, in her late 30’s - said ‘ooh it was not your, fault, not your fault at all’ to try and detract from Granny Mental’s statement, but I obviously felt awful for the pare wummin. I sat down. And then got off again two stops later.
